TACTICAL BRIEFING #29 – Battle for the Soul of Occupy
Alright you jammers, occupiers and Springtime dreamers,
First they silenced our uprising with a media blackout… then they smashed our encampments with midnight paramilitary raids… and now they’re threatening to neutralize our insurgency with an insidious campaign of donor money and co-optation. This counter-strategy worked to kill off the Tea Party’s outrage and turn it into a puppet of the Republican Party. Will the same happen with Occupy Wall Street? Will our insurgency turn into the Democrats’ Tea Party pet?
It’s up to you to decide if our movement goes the way of Paris ’68, the dust bin of could-have-been-insurrections, or something more daring, more inspiring, something not yet dreamed.
Will you allow Occupy to become a project of the old left, the same cabal of old world thinkers who have blunted the possibility of revolution for decades? Will you allow MoveOn, The Nation and Ben & Jerry to put the brakes on our Spring Of -

DanaMite replied to the topic Re: trader joes. bogus. in the forum. Not all Trader Joe's employees are rude. The location in Arroyo Grande is awesome and very supportive of this label GMO campaign. There was someone there today collecting signatures in the rain for several hours. I signed the Millionaires Tax petition - which I had not seen circulated anywhere else.
I have nothing but admiration for Trader Joe's ---- cuz I've been shopping with them for over 20 years now and they honestly do care about what is in their food. I've emailed them on their web site about both BPA & GMO topics, and they always answer my emails promptly and professionally.
Did you realize that foods with a "Trader Joe's" label come from non-GMO sources? They make it a point to use quality ingredients, which is more than most people can say about their favorite restaurant (or grocery store). They do carry other brands that do have GMO ingredients (like Miltons bread) - but TJ says all their own label is GMO free.
And below is a response on BPA linings in their can goods & jars:
Thank you for contacting us. Here is the deal with BPA. First, regarding Tetra, all Tetra Pak is BPA-free.
Second, every glass jar item has a metal lid. All metal lids do have a layer of BPA coating. However, there is another coating put on after that. There is no direct contact of BPA to food. We have multiple supplier testing results showing there is no BPA detected from metal lids.
All our canned fish (and our canned chicken and beef too) are now in BPA-free cans EXCEPT: Sardines, Crab, Cherrystone Clams & Oysters (our suppliers are working for a 2012 solution).
All our canned fruits and vegetables (including tomatoes, and the Organic Canned Pumpkin when it returns this Fall) are in BPA-free cans EXCEPT: Mandarins, Hatch Chilies, Artichokes, Organic Baked Beans (expecting transition this Fall).
All of our canned Soups and Stews (and including Joe's Os) are in cans that DO have BPA. Some of our suppliers are expecting they will be able to make transition next year.
Lastly, Coconut Milk is in a BPA-free can.

DanaMite created a new topic Label GMO Foods - where to sign a petition in the forum.genetically engineered foods / GMO / genetically modified organisms
Hundreds of volunteers in San Luis Obispo are gathering signatures on a new food labeling campaign. California "Right to Know" petition is now circulating in California. You cannot sign this petition online, it must be done in person and you should keep your eyes peeled for folks w/ clipboards. We have one month to collect as many signatures as possible to get this on the November ballot. You have a right to know what is inside your food and how it was created. Over 50 countries already have this labeling law in place, or have banned GMO crops all together.
These are a few places in San Luis Obispo that you can find people gathering signatures (for registered voters).
NEW FRONTIERS MARKET, Los Osos Valley Rd, SLO
TRADER JOE'S, Arroyo Grande, CA
GRANDE FOODS, Arroyo Grande, CA
SOUTH COUNTY LIBRARY, Arroyo Grande (every SAT 3-5pm)
ALL FARMERS MARKETS
Pismo Beach Pier (WED 3-5pm)
Arroyo Grande Village (SAT noon-2pm)
Arroyo Grande @ Spencers (WED 9-11am)
Templeton Farmers Market, etc.
(please feel free to add more locations in this thread)
This week I will be at these locations listed below, and will be frequenting these spots on a regular basis for the rest of March -
PISMO PIER Farmers Market (WED 3-5pm)
GRANDE FOODS, Arroyo Grande (FRI noon-2pm)
OCCUPY, Downtown San Luis Obispo Courthouse (SAT noon-2pm)

DanaMite replied to the topic Re: GMO/Monsanto Actions & Info in the forum. Thanks for all the great info and links on GMO. I have been in touch on taking signatures on the Label GMO campaign. Hope to have petitions in hand by late FEB. Will circulate on Saturdays around noon.
When I began Occupying in October the first thing that came to my mind is the corporate link between our government and our food, so remembering dozens of "documentary films" - what I've been watching for the past decade on my Netflix DVD rentals. The very first thing I did was compile a huge list of all the food films and uploaded them to this very web site (before Thanksgiving).
Please check them out on the link below (streaming links provided) and write some reviews and rate the movies.

DanaMite replied to the topic Re: MLK mid day March? in the forum.I am committed to a mid day march on MLK MONDAY (around noon) and can be there for just a couple of hours. Unlike the banks & gov, this is not a paid holiday for me. Matter of fact I haven't had a paid day off in over 15 yrs! Since I run my own biz I will be working on this particular day, but very eager to march more often.
Do we enough folks interested in this MLK march? If so, I'm game.

Sen. Bernie Sanders has proposed a constitutional amendment that would overturn the Supreme Court decision in a case called Citizens United vs. FEC.
The Saving American Democracy Amendment states that:
Corporations are not persons with constitutional rights equal to real people.
Corporations are subject to regulation by the people.
Corporations may not make campaign contributions.
Congress and states have the power to regulate campaign finances.

DanaMite replied to the topic Re: Cash for Printed Materials? in the forum.Evan did mention that we had local printers offering services, but that was within the first few weeks of OCT. They only signed in here on this site and they did not leave contact info. We have tried to contact print person for particulars and they have yet to come forward again. Although it would be great to get hundreds of dollars worth of printing done for FREE, it doesn't seem to be happening easily at this point, so we need to move forward with some funds.
If we do have another local print shop offering - please send them my way, so we can coordinate.
